I’ll second this one! I’ve shot a .243 for years, and I have a 270 WSM that I really like but I bought 7 mm 08 for my son this year in a compact model. Set him up with some managed recoil rounds from Hornady. Very impressed with accuracy and performance!

35 Remington. I have a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington that was made in 1976. Haven’t killed a deer with it yet but I have killed hogs with it. Great gun / caliber.

If it is in season I will hunt it.

Agreed. I bought a Rem Mod 7 7-08 youth model several years to use in thick woods, but ended up letting my nephew use it more than me. Great little gun.

Mine is a Rem 788.  I got it at a gun shop when I was a young kid in college.  The guy had the 08 or .308 for the same price, $180 brand new.  He sold me on the 08 and I have never been sorry.  The only issue is that ammo is not as easy to find as some of the others but it is easier now than it was 30 years ago.

I'm using 6x47Lapua shooting Hornady 105gr HPBT. Had this one re-barreled from 308win to 6x47L and killed me a deer with my own handloads for the first time this season.

Similar to Carcass...

308-win
12 ga. (slugs)
50 cal ML

My brother uses my old Win M94 30-30

I'll probably be getting my youngest son his first hunting rifle this year for his 12th birthday.
Caliber for him, I'm torn between: 243, 6.5 Swede, 260, 25-06 or a 20 ga (Savage slug gun) so he could also get into some slug only areas and/or managed hunts.

Might just get him a rifle caliber and then keep searching for a good-condition H&R Slug Hunter in 20-ga as a 'family'/loaner. Nothing fancy but have been wanting to pick up a nice H&R Ultra slug for a while now.

Man, I’ve got a Remington 788 in .243 that I’ve had since I was a kid also. Tack driver!
